Today BMC Software and Cisco announced a strategic alliance to develop and market new solutions for large-scale multi-tenant cloud computing infrastructures. This is phenomenal news as last year NetApp and BMC formed our strategic alliance to provide joint customers with the solutions and infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of cloud infrastructures.
Today's announcement will result in end-to-end solutions with the ability to provision and manager servers, networking, storage arrays and virtual machines. The combination of these mutual alliances provide joint BMC, Cisco, and NetApp customers the benefit of a fully automated end-to-end cloud infrastructure beginning with the initial service request to “one click” provisioning, deployment, management and decommissioning, which extends to address the most complex & demanding deployments like our joint Secure Multi-Tenancy solution or FlexPOD architectures.
So What’s Available Today?
Today customers who deploy cloud services via BMC Business Service Management platform can have the NetApp storage catalog as an integrated component via BMC’s Atrium Orchestrator. This means a storage administrator can define the policies for NetApp efficiency, availability, provisioning and protection, and have storage provisioned automatically as part of an enterprise service catalog. This integration includes NetApp Provisioning Manager and the VSC 2.0 via the BMC Cloud Extension Pack for Cloud Lifecycle Management.
In addition, we have also integrated SANscreen with BSM's CMDB. This integration provides for the discovery and reporting of a storage infrastructure (and topology) for impact management and root cause analysis. It provides invaluable transparency between physical and virtual infrastructures.
Automating these processes enables customers to save time and money, reduces compliance risk and helps IT organizations stay focused on meeting the needs of the business. As an example this demo highlights the integration between NetApp's Storage Service Catalog and the BMC Atrium Orchestrator using the BMC Request Manager to illustrate the day to day operational view with a behind the scenes view provided VMware vCenter Server's and the NetApp Management Console.
In this video you can see the elegance in which BMC Software manages the physical and virtual components in the joint Cisco, NetApp, & VMware SMT architecture. BTW - You can download our joint SMT deployment guide here!
Bottom Line - Customers Win!
Together we are delivering IT automation today and through this expanded strategic alliance we will ensure customer success tomorrow!
“The newly announced strategic alliance between BMC and Cisco is another significant industry milestone. Partnering together, we can now offer IT managers a complete, market-leading, data center infrastructure solution,” said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Alliances and Solutions at NetApp. “NetApp teams closely with both BMC and Cisco to develop and deliver flexible and efficient shared IT infrastructures. For example, the Cisco and NetApp FlexPod, when combined with BMC orchestration tools, provides a best-of-breed, modular solution for private clouds.”
